CHRIST  SPEAKS

ON

"THE  WORK"

From the Mystical Revelations Given to Maria Valtorta –

— INTRODUCTORY  NOTE —

As noted elsewhere on this site, in the Revelations and Dictations recorded by Maria Valtorta, Christ often refers to the great Poem of the Man-God as "The Work"2 and His "Gift"7 of Mercy and Love. He has also revealed the great importance and value He places on this Work as a "new evangelization" of the Gospel for our times. Hence, it is not surprising that both Christ and God the Father have  expressed Their dismay and chagrin at the rejection and opposition by ecclesiastical authorities to the publication and diffusion of this great Work among the faithful. But perhaps in no other article posted on this site has Christ vented His wrath with such vehemence toward these authorities, as in the article translated here from Valtorta's Quadernetti collection. Five or six times Christ  says that He "curses" such men for their opposition to His Work2, His Gift7 of greener pastures for His flocks of today.

We are reminded of the severe words in the Old Testament of the not-yet-incarnate Word of God , rebuking  for similar behavior the shepherd-priests of Israel :

"You shepherds, hear the word of the LORD As I live, says the Lord GOD, because my sheep have become a prey, and my sheep have become food for all the wild beasts, since there was no shepherd; and because my shepherds have not searched for my sheep, but the shepherds have fed themselves, and have not fed my sheep; therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the LORD: Thus says the Lord GOD, Behold, I am against the shepherds; and I will require my sheep at their hand, and put a stop to their feeding the sheep; no longer shall the shepherds feed themselves. I will rescue my sheep from their mouths, that they may not be food for them... Behold, I, I myself will search for my sheep, and will seek them out.  As a shepherd seeks out his flock when some of his sheep have been scattered abroad, so will I seek out my sheep; and I will rescue them from all places where they have been scattered on a day of clouds and thick darkness..." [Ezech. 34:8-12]

These prophetic words from Ezechiel foreshadowed the greater severity of that same Word of God—now  incarnate in Jesus Christ—toward the priest-shepherds of His new Israel, the Church, whom Christ now curses for denying His sheep of today access to the  greener pastures of The Poem...  It is a terrible thing  to bear the curse of the  Good Shepherd, now become "the terrible, dreadful King of  Majesty."

Perhaps this Valtorta  web site and others like it, will be a reparation to the Divine Master for the neglect and scorn which His shepherds of today have heaped upon His Gift of Love. And may He receive it also in gratitude for this Treasure of His Mercy...

[June 16, 1950-Feast of the Sacred Heart]1a

Valtorta :

(I recopy [this page] according to the order I received on June 6, 1953. Just today [June 19, 1953] I have found again the page in question and transcribed it).

Jesus appears to me in the glory of Heaven. The glorious, imposing Jesus, true King of kings and Lord of lords, as He was after His Resurrection and Ascension. With His very beautiful Hands He has parted His regal mantle, closed at the top of His Breast by a sculpted gold clasp and which falls down far beyond His feet, forming an ample train beyond His garment, very long so as to completely cover His feet.

I admire Him, noting even in the [compelling] power of shapes [and forms], to what most perfect physical harmony and regal and divine power He has arrived after accomplishing all on Earth.

From His parted mantle His most Sacred Heart appears, a true Heart, but also a true flame or fire of an unbearable radiance. From It descends a very brilliant cone-shaped beam, which widens always more as it draws nearer to the Earth. Also from His pierced Hands descend similar beams, and certainly thus from beneath His garment, from His pierced Feetfive swords of  most intense fire, of dazzling light, which descend upon the Earth.

Jesus, Who turns His back to the east and looks toward the west, appears severe but not wrathful. Rather, when He turns to speak to me He is sweet; then, little by little as He speaks to me, He becomes the terrible Rex tremendae majestatis1b: the Jesus Who punishes  the merchants and usurers of the Temple, the unjust Pharisees and Scribes:

JESUS :

Behold, infinite Charity, which is My attribute, has drawn from this most Merciful Heart a new gift of infinite Mercy, of divine Mercy for men: the Work.2 It was to serve to fortify the three Theological Virtues in their spirits, and the four Cardinal Virtues, and to give My Love, the exact measure of Its dimension to those who are about to be overwhelmed by the hatred of Satan, of the Antichrist and of his servants.

And I gave the Work2 in time, before the dreadful appointment, so that it might be spread: as manna and medicine for the multitudes so that they may not die, may not lose their faith because of the events, or curse God or deny His Existence, because, they will say, if He existed He would not have permitted these things—He Who, we were told, can do all things. I gave [the Work2] in time, asking from My first Servants, the Priests, shepherds of souls, the very small, easy, just, and meritorious labor of granting its publication—a minuscule labor compared to My very great Gift and to your very great labor, Maria, accomplished in your physical and moral conditions.3  I gave it in time, I Who am Wisdom and know all, Who am Charity and do all for love, Who am All-seeing and know the right hour for every event or manifestation. I have spoken in every way, with prayers, with prophesies already accomplished, with reprimands also for the Shepherds [who are] non-shepherds who, foolishly secure in their well-being, do not have the compassion to be real Shepherds for their lambs.

They have mocked, derided, trampled My Will of love. They have afflicted and condemned to a long passion My servants. They have acted according to their own will, by the decision they have taken, though not having even the least reason for acting as they do, thus depriving souls of My Gift.

What are they waiting for? That a world-wide cataclysm may permit them to justify their evil actions, and to say: "Given the particular hour which besieges the world, it is as impossible for us, as it would be for others, to allow it to be printed!"?  No.  That reason is not valid. Because it is three years since I have finished [the Work] and asked that it be made available, so that many could turn to Me for those Words of Life. And for three years they have opposed it.

They oppose it by acting as they do, depriving souls of having consolation in the hours that shall soon come [upon the world]. If in a very near tomorrow Humanity should be overwhelmed in a new whirlwind of ferocity, compared to which the last one of 1940-1945 would be nothing, in your perishing amid hellish anxieties you would not have, My poor children—through the fault of those who have violated My Will, hindering the publication and spread of the Word—you would not have the consolation of those words, given so that you might not die of despair. And I, from Heaven, shall curse these men who arrogated to themselves the right of depriving you of that Gift7 which I have given for its supreme light and consolation in the terrible hour.

I curse!  Because I am hindered—and by the very ones who are  My servants—from being the King of kings and Lord of lords also on Earth as I am in Heaven: the Universal and Eternal KingWho has every right to benefit His subjects—the Shepherd of shepherds amid My flock assailed by so many material, moral and spiritual enemies: enemies to whom every liberty is granted, even that of using nature's resources for making lethal armaments of destruction to destroy not only God's Creation, but also faith in the Omnipotence and Goodness of God. To oppose these armaments, [My servants] choose a human benefit so as to have a human good, instead of choosing a suprahuman benefit [in opposing them]. And they do so with the same false excuses adopted by My enemies of Palestine to justify—to attempt to justify—their actions toward Me. These are the [same] weapons used by the pharisees, scribes, sadducees, Herodians, all the false servants of God, lying believers because they did not join right actions to their words; simoniacs who, in the presence of gold and power, and for the sake of these, trampled on justice. But instead [of a human good] they get evil, and evil is what they will have on Earth and in Heaven. Why do they not raise their voice as free men, as real men of good will, even though it were to cost their head, [and say] against the greatest crime toward Humanity: "It is not allowed!", just as My heroic Precursor4 dared to shout at his earthly king?

I curse! All these I curse and I will curse if they do not repent, if they do not repair their unjust action. These stubborn hard-headed, stiff-necked men who do not bend beneath the holy yoke of My Will as God. These hard-hearted men who have no pity on you, Maria, nor on the crowds needing the Bread of My Word. These men who do not know how to say to the powers of every race and nation: "Enough hate and carnage, and unjust actions! Because God, that God Whom you say you love but, in truth, either you do not, or you do so very imperfectly, [that God] preaches love and not hate. Because God—that God Whom you deny in His works of mercy, wisdom, charity, and Whom you persecute by persecuting those whom I have chosen as My instruments and whom you oppress by oppressing them even in their freedom of spirit—that God already hurls [curses] against you."

You see, O Maria, these blazing swords which go forth from the wounds that My love for men opened in Me: the Man-God, Savior and Redeemer? I am Mercy.  But only for the good. For you. For those who, like you, are true children their Father God.

But they are also a two-edged sword, like that which My beloved apostle, John, the Eagle, Love in the apostolic ensemble, speaks of in his Apocalypse. They are swords which cut, they are lightning bolts which strike him who has roused My divine anger. And these I curse, and I repulse them from Me.

And My curse is a whip that strikes—and that sign will never more be cancelled—it strikes the merchants and traders, the false doctors of the new Temple: false, because they have the external signs—only those—of being My servants; but they have not the spiritual sign of being My servants: that sign which is light giving light so as to see the truth, wisdom to distinguish with true justice, charity which gives what is good for souls, and justice without which holiness fails.

[My curse] is a spiritual whip, but it is no less just and true, like that with which I struck, once and again5, the merchants and traders of the old Temple [Jn 2:14-17, Mt 21:12-13]. And it is a whip of words with which I struck and brought down the false priests of the Temple of Moriah which later fell, like them, by divine chastisement.

Because zeal for My Father's House—and My Father's House is the assembly of all faithful Christians, adopted sons of God, reborn by My sacrifice to this level of adoption and to Grace, these bewildered, oppressed sons whom you [Priests of today] do not console, do not comfort, do not guide with all that I have given you for this purpose
—as I well foresaw and preached to My first Priests—and worse still, you hinder Me from doing it with those pages of true Life6: that zeal, I say, for My Father's House of His sons of adoption and [who are] brothers of Mine by human blood, whom all of you collaborate in dragging into discouragement and doubt about the truthfulness of the Gift7 and of My mercy: it is that zeal which inflames My indignation and consumes My Patience.

Woe to you, rebel servants!  Peace to you, My faithful lambs!

Behold  that Heart Which awaits your repentance in order to forgive you [O rebels]!  But Which pours out still more Its rivers of peace on those whom you make slaves of your unjust tyranny: a poor, fleeting tyranny which in a moment could become ashes, dust, nothing!

Know that they, whom you oppress, are more in Me than all of you are with your powers and greatness of fleeting duration; and they suffer with Me, as I am in them and I suffer in them. They merit therefore, at the end of their faithful existence, all the joy of Heaven. And they will have it, to mitigate what you made them suffer on Earth, and to forget, in an endless and limitless bliss, all the sorrow which they had from your having held them prisoners morally and spiritually for so long a time, always fearful as they were of other crueler actions of yours, cruel and unjust actions, against those who rather deserved every honor.

Valtorta :

Some minutes after He stopped speaking, Jesus closes His mantle again and He disappears. But for the next ten days, that is, up to the outbreak of the Korean war, He shows Himself  to me thus, without speaking but very afflicted, even in His dazzling beauty.

Divine arrangements concerning the Work.2

JESUS :

Presented as it is in a way, the only way that men will be able to find, so that souls whom I love may have My Gift of love7 —[a Gift] which is literary—[the Work] should not be retouched in the future.

I, Myself, have made modifications in other places while leaving the lessons intact—and which should not be changed other than to remove the aspect that annoys those who censure My works, wanting to set limits, these servants, on their Lord.

And what I have done should be left alone: now, a year from now, ten years from now,  forever.

To make a first, and later a second edition different from the first, would truly create confusion.

In the second edition, which I concede, it could at most be said of it that one had been compelled to change and modify its form so as "to make the work more attractive for those most in need of it," for those for whom I have the most pity, because they are dispirited and gone astray, they are dying in their spirit and do not know it, because they do not know Me.

But nothing more than this.

I have told you for seven years, Maria, seven—a number sacred to Me and which I have imposed on you in many thingsI have told you that you will not be a saint for having written the Work,2 but for your sacrifice, for all your life of love and sacrifice.

Love and the sacrifice is your accomplishment.  The Work2 has been given by Me. It is My gift. Not any merit of yours. Hence, in order for you to be blissfully happy Here, where I am, there is no need to present you as a seer. But as My servant. You serve Me also by publishing in a literary form. And you have double merit and double peace. And you desire peace, while you do not desire the praise of men, except for Mine.

Let this be made in triple copies. One to be joined to the work [written] in your own hand, one to be given to him who looks after it, one to be done with as you wish..

My peace be in you.

JESUS :

My Divine Mercy has given the Work2 out of mercy for infinite souls, lost or on the way to being lost—both lay and even consecrated souls—so that they would again have eternal Salvation.

The Work was the practical application of the spiritual works of mercy which I have taught: "Instruct the ignorant, convert sinners...".

Those who have blocked it for years, unjustly and without a true reason—rather only for a blameworthy reason—have not understood its end, its aim, or the power of My Gift7, and have profoundly wounded My Heart and made themselves responsible for the spiritual death of so many souls, and for a great lack of charity and justice toward you, Maria.

I have already said in the second year of My Public Life, in the first volume [of The Poem...]: "Every soul which has gone astray or been led astray—and it is to lead astray by distorting for oneself and for others My Word and My Work
2, and to hinder its diffusion—[every such soul] causes harm to God in the souls who are being lost. And every soul that is lost causes a wound in Me: God and Savior."

And since it is five years now that I have been wounded unceasingly with unjust actions toward the Work
2, I have halted the flow of Divine Wisdom which I wanted to pour again into you, [Maria]—My cistern of love and of grace for souls—by giving you the explanations of the Apocalypse, of the other Pauline Epistles, and of those of Peter, James and Jude of Alpheus. All the apostolic letters.

JESUS :

You have seen well, [Maria].8  It is indeed I on the Mount of the Beatitudes, while explaining the Beatitudes and, with them, the works of Mercy.  Ah!  Those works and those Beatitudes which I thus explained so well and, with them, the Ten Commandments, at the [place of the] Beautiful Water,13 for the good of a very vast flock of wounded and scattered sheep!

Why has there been for so long resentment and blindness against My great Gift of love7 and My dearly beloved instrument9?  Did the sudden death of the seven10 serve in no way for a warning to My new enemies? Soul of Mine,11 My little violet, hidden but so fragrant with love, My cistern, My granary, My great unknown apostle, if you saw how I suffer for this behavior toward Me, toward the Work,2 and toward you! I suffer from it as I suffered for the unjust, or rather diabolic action of Judas Iscariot, for the unjust trial against Me, the perfect Just One, and for the behavior of My People, always benefited by Me and [yet] who did not want Me—as they do not want you, My voice, My light, My weapon for the good of an infinite number of souls. Give to M. T. [sic]12  the image on which is My fragrance: again a part of Me. It will be very useful to him, necessary in these days for many things.  And pray, and ask prayers for the 7,10 that My rays may illumine all!

I cannot say more for now. Farewell. My blessing on you and on all those who love Me.

1b. "
Rex tremendae majestatis" —"King of terrible majesty"--from the 13th centrury Latin hymn "Dies Irae".

2. "...the Work." —As noted in other articles on this web site, Christ uses the term "the Work" to refer primarily to His great gift of The Poem of the Man-God, and by extension, to all the other Revelations and Dictations He has also given to Valtorta for the Church today.
3.  "...physical and moral conditions." —We recall that Valtorta wrote in longhand over 15,000 pages of the Revelations and Dictations given her by Christ. These comprise The Poem of the Man-God, her Notebooks and other works, which she wrote while confined to her bed as a paraplegic and while frequently enduring torturous physical and moral sufferings.
4. "...My heroic Precursor..."—that is, John the Baptist, who paid with his head for his daring rebuke of Herod's sin [Matt 14:6-12].
5. ..."once and again..." —According to The Poem Christ drove out the merchants and traders from the Temple on two separate occasions, as this passage confirms.
6. "...pages of true  Life..." —This again refers to the The Poem...
7. "...My gift of love..." —Again, "gift" here is a term Christ uses to refer to The Poem...
8. "You have seen well, [Maria]." —This Dictation apparently refers to a recent vision Christ gave to Valtorta but not recorded here.
9. "...and My dearly beloved instrument?" —A reference to Valtorta.
10. "...sudden death of the seven..." —There is no indication in the text as to whom these seven sudden deaths refer.

11. "Soul of Mine..." etc.—With this and the following epithets, Christ lovingly refers to Valtorta here.
12. "Give to M. T...." —There is no other indication in the text as to whom this "M. T." refers.
13. "...Beautiful Water" —Italian: Aqua Speciosa, is rendered as "Clear Water" in the published English translation.
